NFL Power Rankings – Week 5 (Teams 32–17)
As we reach the fifth week of the season, all teams have now completed at least a quarter of their scheduled games. While some franchises are soaring high, others are still grappling with various challenges. At the lower end of the rankings, teams are contending with injuries, disappointing losses, and even changes at the quarterback position. Nevertheless, there remains ample time for unexpected developments!
32. Tennessee Titans (0-4)
The Titans suffered a debilitating defeat, being shut out 26-0 by the Texans. Rookie quarterback Cameron Ward exhibited some arm strength, but turnovers and missed field goals ensured they were unable to score. The offensive line faced significant difficulties throughout the game. If they aspire to reverse their fortunes, improved protection for Ward will be essential.
31. New York Jets (0-4)
The Jets fell to the Dolphins with a score of 27-21. Justin Fields executed a long touchdown run and connected with Garrett Wilson in the latter stages, but turnovers and a failed onside kick thwarted their efforts at a comeback. Achieving greater balance in the passing game is crucial if they hope to secure their first victory.
30. New Orleans Saints (0-4)
The Saints experienced a 31-19 defeat at the hands of the Bills. Spencer Rattler successfully threw a touchdown pass to Chris Olave, and Kamara made significant contributions, yet the defense was unable to contain Josh Allen and James Cook effectively. The defense must shore up its performance quickly if they intend to keep their season alive.
29. New York Giants (1-3)
The Giants achieved an unexpected victory over the Chargers with a tight score of 21-18, marking their first win of the season. Rookie Jaxson Dart stepped up by scoring a rushing touchdown, while Cam Skattebo and the defensive unit played pivotal roles in securing the game. They are hopeful that Dart will continue to inspire future victories as he becomes more accustomed to the role.
28. Houston Texans (1-3)
The Texans secured their first win of the season by decisively defeating the Titans 26-0. C.J. Stroud tossed two touchdown passes, rookie Woody Marks found the end zone twice, and the defense consistently forced turnovers. They aim to build upon this momentum and gradually climb higher in the rankings.
27. Carolina Panthers (1-3)
The Panthers endured a disheartening loss, suffering a significant defeat of 42-13 to the Patriots. Bryce Young managed to throw one early touchdown, but the offense struggled to produce thereafter, while the defense failed to contain Drake Maye. Consistency is vital for the Panthers to provide Young with a genuine opportunity to excel.
26. Las Vegas Raiders (1-3)
In a closely contested match, the Raiders lost a heartbreaking game to the Bears, finishing 25-24. Rookie Ashton Jeanty showcased impressive performance with 138 rushing yards and three total touchdowns, yet a missed field goal attempt in the final moments ultimately cost them victory. If Jeanty continues to perform at this level, the Raiders' prospects look promising, despite recent setbacks.
25. Cleveland Browns (1-3)
The Browns were overpowered with a 34-10 loss against the Lions. Rookie Quinshon Judkins managed to score once, but veteran quarterback Joe Flacco threw two interceptions, and the defense surrendered too many substantial plays. They will need a more disciplined performance from the quarterback to remain competitive in future games.
24. Miami Dolphins (1-3)
The Dolphins celebrated their first victory, triumphing 27-21 over the Jets. De’Von Achane rushed for nearly 100 yards, and Darren Waller contributed with two touchdowns, although Tyreek Hill exited the game with a severe knee injury. Miami must quickly adapt to life without Hill, as he is now sidelined for the rest of the season.
23. Cincinnati Bengals (2-2)
The Bengals endured a crushing defeat, losing 28-3 to the Broncos. In the absence of quarterback Joe Burrow, Jake Browning struggled, and key players like Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins were largely ineffective throughout the day. Cincinnati might need to consider acquiring a new quarterback if they wish to salvage their season.
22. Dallas Cowboys (1-2-1)
In a thrilling encounter, the Cowboys played to a dramatic 40-40 tie against the Packers. Dak Prescott showcased his skills with four touchdown passes, while Javonte Williams and George Pickens each found the end zone. However, to avoid future close calls, the defense must enhance its performance.
21. Arizona Cardinals (2-2)
The Cardinals narrowly lost to the Seahawks, 23-20. Kyler Murray successfully connected with rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. for a touchdown, but the defense conceded a game-winning field goal in the closing moments. To maintain viability in the playoff race, they must finish games more decisively.
20. New England Patriots (2-2)
The Patriots achieved a commanding victory over the Panthers, winning 42-13. Rookie quarterback Drake Maye impressively threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, while the defense continually forced turnovers. Should Maye continue on this trajectory, New England could ascend the rankings rapidly.
19. Chicago Bears (2-2)
The Bears narrowly triumphed over the Raiders, with a final score of 25-24. Caleb Williams completed a pivotal touchdown pass to Rome Odunze, and D’Andre Swift scored the decisive touchdown in the game's final moments. Chicago aims to string together multiple victories to demonstrate that their success is not merely a temporary occurrence.
18. Washington Commanders (2-2)
The Commanders faced a 34-27 defeat to the Falcons. Marcus Mariota threw two touchdown passes directed at Deebo Samuel, but the defense faltered in containing explosive plays from Bijan Robinson and Michael Penix Jr. Washington will need Jayden Daniels to recover if they wish to continue competing effectively.
17. Denver Broncos (2-2)
The Broncos delivered an impressive performance, overwhelming the Bengals with a score of 28-3. Second-year quarterback Bo Nix surpassed 300 passing yards, while J.K. Dobbins rushed for 101 yards, and the defense effectively neutralized Cincinnati's offense. Denver aims to prove that this victory is not simply an outlier.
The middle tier of the rankings comprises teams that have demonstrated moments of promise, though they have yet to establish consistency week after week. A significant play or a more polished game could dramatically alter their trajectories. In the upcoming week, we will observe which teams can rise through the ranks and which will continue to falter as the playoff landscape gradually takes shape.
