Browns Rookie Sensation Leads Crushing Victory Over Struggling Dolphins
The Cleveland Browns (1-5) entered Sunday's matchup against the Miami Dolphins (1-5) with both teams desperately searching for answers in disappointing seasons. The Browns were building around rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel and their powerful ground game, while Miami was trying to find offensive rhythm without injured superstar Tyreek Hill.
First Quarter: Defense Rules Early
The opening quarter belonged to the defenses as both teams struggled to find their offensive rhythm. Cleveland managed to move the ball effectively on their opening drive, with Gabriel showing his mobility by scrambling for six yards on the first play from scrimmage. However, the Browns couldn't capitalize and settled for a 30-yard field goal by Austin Szmyt to take a 3-0 lead.
Miami responded with their most explosive play of the day when De'Von Achane broke free for a spectacular 46-yard run that showcased his game-breaking speed. The Dolphins drove deep into Cleveland territory, but their drive stalled at the 17-yard line as the quarter expired.
Second Quarter: Judkins Takes Over
The second quarter transformed into the Quinshon Judkins show. Miami opened the scoring with a 33-yard field goal by Jason Sanders, tying the game 3-3. But Cleveland's rookie running back had other plans.
After a defensive pass interference penalty gave the Browns excellent field position, Judkins exploded through the Miami defense for a magnificent 46-yard touchdown run that had the crowd roaring. The powerful second-round pick showed why he's become Cleveland's offensive centerpiece.
The Browns weren't finished. A fumble on the ensuing kickoff gave Cleveland prime field position again, and Judkins punched in his second touchdown from three yards out. His two-touchdown performance in the quarter gave Cleveland a commanding 17-3 lead at halftime.
Third Quarter: Defense Creates Magic
The third quarter began with fireworks as Cleveland's defense stepped up in spectacular fashion. On Miami's first play from scrimmage, Tua Tagovailoa threw a pass intended for Achane that was intercepted by a Browns defensive back and returned 34 yards for a touchdown. The pick-six extended Cleveland's lead to 24-3 and sent a clear message about the game's direction.
Miami showed some fight with a long drive featuring solid runs by Achane and a beautiful 28-yard completion to Tyler Conner. However, the Dolphins couldn't find the end zone and failed to score any points in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Judkins Completes Hat Trick
The fourth quarter sealed Miami's fate when Tagovailoa threw his third interception of the game, giving Cleveland excellent field position near the goal line. Judkins wasted no time, powering into the end zone for his third touchdown of the day and a 31-3 Browns advantage.
Gabriel managed the game perfectly, completing 13 of 18 passes for 116 yards while avoiding turnovers. His steady leadership allowed the running game to dominate, with Judkins finishing with 84 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries.
Miami's struggles continued as Tagovailoa completed just 12 of 23 passes for 100 yards with three devastating interceptions. Even Achane's solid 82 rushing yards couldn't overcome the offensive dysfunction.
Looking Ahead
This dominant victory improves Cleveland to 2-5 and provides hope for their young core. Judkins' three-touchdown performance proves he's ready to be a featured back, while Gabriel's efficient game management suggests bright days ahead.
Miami falls to 1-6 and faces serious questions about their season. Without Hill's explosive ability, their passing attack has struggled to create consistent scoring opportunities.
Both teams will look to build on this experience as they prepare for their next challenges in what remains of the 2025 season.
