Tony Pollard Powers Titans to Wild 31-29 Victory Over Browns in Week 14 Shootout
The Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns entered Sunday's matchup with different goals but similar struggles. The Titans (1-11) were searching for their second win of a disappointing season, while the Browns (3-9) hoped to build momentum around rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders after recent inconsistent performances.
First Quarter Fireworks Set the Tone
The game exploded into action right from the opening drive! The Titans marched down the field with precision, as rookie quarterback Cameron Ward found his rhythm early. Running back Tyjae Spears made a spectacular 24-yard catch-and-run that energized the Tennessee offense. Ward capped off the drive by tossing a perfect 14-yard touchdown pass to Elic Ayomanor in the corner of the end zone, giving Tennessee a 7-0 lead.
Cleveland's offense struggled initially, going three-and-out on their first possession. But the Browns' defense came up huge when Bush intercepted Ward's pass and returned it 44 yards, setting up excellent field position. Sanders quickly capitalized, connecting with tight end Harold Fannin Jr. for 17 yards before settling for a 38-yard field goal to make it 7-3.
Then came the quarter's most jaw-dropping moment! Tony Pollard took a handoff and burst through the Cleveland defense for an incredible 65-yard touchdown run, showcasing the speed that made him successful in Dallas. Tennessee led 14-3, but Cleveland wasn't finished. Sanders found Quinshon Judkins on a beautiful 58-yard pass play that brought the Browns to the goal line as the first quarter ended.
Second Quarter: Sanders Shows His Skills
The second quarter belonged to the rookie quarterbacks! Cleveland punched in their touchdown early when Sanders found David Njoku for a 1-yard score, cutting the deficit to 14-10.
After Tennessee managed just one scoring drive in the quarter, Sanders put on a show. The young quarterback scrambled for 14 yards, showing his mobility, then launched a perfect 60-yard touchdown bomb to Jerry Jeudy! The veteran receiver, who had been struggling all season with just 2.9 catches per game, finally broke free for his biggest play of the year. Cleveland took a 17-14 lead into halftime.
Third Quarter: Pollard Strikes Again
The third quarter started with Cleveland controlling the game through their running attack. Judkins carried the load with steady runs, but the Browns couldn't find the end zone. Tennessee's defense forced a punt, and that's when Pollard struck again!
After Sanders threw his second interception of the game, Pollard took advantage of the short field. The veteran back powered through tackles for a 32-yard touchdown run, his second of the game! This performance marked a huge turnaround for Pollard, who had been averaging just 3.5 yards per carry this season. Tennessee regained the lead 21-17 heading into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Dramatic Finish
The fourth quarter turned into an absolute thriller! Tennessee extended their lead to 28-17 when Ward found Chimere Dike for a 5-yard touchdown pass after recovering a Cleveland fumble.
But Sanders wasn't done fighting! The rookie quarterback led two incredible scoring drives in the final minutes. First, he scrambled for a 7-yard rushing touchdown, showing his dual-threat ability. Then, with time running out, Sanders connected with Fannin Jr. for the game-tying touchdown with just over a minute remaining!
Tennessee managed to run out the clock after Cleveland's onside kick attempt, securing a thrilling 31-29 victory.
Looking Ahead
This victory moves Tennessee to 2-11, giving their young players valuable experience in close games. For Cleveland, the loss drops them to 3-10, but Sanders' 364 passing yards and four total touchdowns show promising development for the future. Both teams will continue evaluating their young talent as the season concludes.
