Week 8 NFL Power Rankings (Teams 32–17)
The NFL season is progressing rapidly, and with each passing week, the standings become increasingly captivating. Certain teams are beginning to gain momentum, while others appear to be trapped in a series of unfortunate events. This week’s lower tier of the rankings features a mixture of rebuilding franchises, struggling contenders, and one team still seeking its first victory.
32. New York Jets (0–7)
The Jets continued their frustrating journey with yet another disheartening loss, this time succumbing 13–6 to the Panthers. Their offense struggled to gain traction, and the quarterbacks were plagued by multiple interceptions. Although the defense did its best to keep them competitive, the Jets still find themselves in search of their inaugural win of the season.
31. New Orleans Saints (1–6)
The Saints faced a defeat of 26–14 against the Bears in a contest where their defense failed to make crucial stops. Chris Olave showcased his talent with two impressive long touchdowns, appearing virtually unstoppable at times. However, turnovers committed by rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler proved to be detrimental. While New Orleans possesses playmakers, they struggle to maintain consistency throughout all four quarters.
30. Tennessee Titans (1–6)
The Titans experienced a lopsided defeat, falling 31–13 to the Patriots, which highlighted the significant challenges that lie ahead. Rookie quarterback Cameron Ward managed to connect on a deep touchdown pass early in the game, but the offense faltered shortly afterward. The defense allowed significant plays through the air, revealing that this young team is still in the process of learning how to compete effectively.
29. Miami Dolphins (1–6)
Miami's offense never found its rhythm in a 31–6 loss against Cleveland. Running back De’Von Achane displayed moments of brilliance with several long runs, but critical turnovers from Tua Tagovailoa extinguished any chance of momentum. In the absence of Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins’ aerial attack appears disoriented, and their season is in danger of slipping away.
28. Baltimore Ravens (1–5)
The Ravens benefited from a timely bye week, which they undoubtedly needed. Their offense has struggled to demonstrate consistency, and the urgent return of Lamar Jackson is critical. This break offers them an opportunity to regroup and potentially ignite a turnaround before the situation spirals further out of control.
27. Las Vegas Raiders (2–5)
The Raiders suffered a humiliating 31–0 defeat at the hands of the Chiefs. Their newly implemented run-heavy offensive strategy failed to yield results, and quarterback Geno Smith was unable to find his rhythm. The defense proved ineffective against Patrick Mahomes, who threw three touchdown passes. Las Vegas must undergo significant changes on offense to remain competitive in the highly challenging AFC West.
26. Arizona Cardinals (2–5)
The Cardinals fought valiantly but ultimately lost 27–23 to the Packers. Tight end Trey McBride made a noteworthy impact with two touchdown receptions, while rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. showcased his catching ability with several highlight plays. However, the defense faltered in critical moments. Arizona’s young talents exhibit potential, but their inability to finish games remains a prominent hindrance.
25. Cleveland Browns (2–5)
In a striking 31–6 victory over the Dolphins, the Browns delivered a dominant performance, led by rookie running back Quinshon Judkins, who impressively scored three touchdowns. Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel adeptly managed the game, while the defense contributed with a pick-six. This comprehensive victory represented Cleveland’s most impressive outing of the season, signaling that their youthful core is making strides.
24. New York Giants (2–5)
The Giants put forth their strongest performance of the season until the final moments. They suffered a heartbreaking defeat, losing 33–32 to the Broncos after leading for the majority of the game. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart threw for four touchdowns, and Cam Skattebo energised the ground game, but a missed extra point and a last-minute collapse proved costly. Nonetheless, tangible progress is evident in New York.
23. Houston Texans (2–4)
The Texans fell 27–19 to the Seahawks but exhibited resilience in the late stages of the game. C.J. Stroud threw for 229 yards and a touchdown, while rookie receiver Jaylin Noel delivered a commendable performance. Unfortunately, early errors and an inconsistent offensive line buried them in a deficit they were unable to recover from. Houston possesses emerging talent but requires improved execution.
22. Cincinnati Bengals (3–4)
Cincinnati triumphed in an electrifying 33–31 shootout against the Steelers. Joe Flacco threw for an impressive 342 yards and three touchdowns, while Ja’Marr Chase contributed significantly with 161 yards and a touchdown of his own. Rookie running back Chase Brown added 108 rushing yards, providing the Bengals with much-needed balance. After a sluggish start to the season, they are beginning to appear formidable once again.
21. Washington Commanders (3–4)
The Commanders experienced a dismal outing, succumbing to a 44–22 defeat against the Cowboys in a contest where they struggled in nearly every aspect. Quarterback Jayden Daniels sustained an injury, and the defense was unable to contain multiple long touchdown plays. Backup Marcus Mariota failed to ignite the offense, leaving the team looking overmatched. A reassessment is necessary to avoid falling further behind in the NFC East.
20. Minnesota Vikings (3–4)
The Vikings lost a closely contested game, falling 28–22 to the Eagles in a matchup filled with back-and-forth action. Carson Wentz threw two early interceptions, yet Jordan Addison shone with an impressive 128 yards receiving. Although the Vikings’ defense fought tenaciously, they conceded too many deep passes to A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. They’ve remained competitive in most games, but now they must learn to finish.
19. Atlanta Falcons (3–3)
The Falcons faced a tough 20–10 loss against the 49ers but maintained competitiveness throughout the entire game. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw a splendid touchdown pass to Bijan Robinson and exhibited composure under pressure. However, Atlanta struggled to capitalize on drives, frequently settling for field goals. They are making strides, but their inability to complete games is hindering their success.
18. Carolina Panthers (4–3)
The Panthers secured their third consecutive victory by defeating the Jets 13–6 in a match characterized by strong defensive efforts. Bryce Young played intelligently, the running game effectively controlled the clock, and cornerback Jaycee Horn recorded two interceptions. Carolina's defense is rapidly becoming one of the stronger units in the league, and they are quietly ascending the NFC standings.
17. Dallas Cowboys (3–3–1)
In an impressive display, the Cowboys triumphed 44–22 over Washington. Dak Prescott threw for three touchdowns, tight end Jake Ferguson found the end zone twice, and running back Javonte Williams bolstered the ground game with 116 yards. Dallas presented itself as a cohesive unit on both sides of the ball, demonstrating the potential to make a significant playoff push.
These middle and lower-tier teams are beginning to clarify their standings. Some, like the Panthers and Bengals, are displaying genuine signs of revival, while others, such as the Jets and Raiders, appear to be stuck in neutral. With a significant portion of the season still ahead, there remains a chance for some of these teams to turn their fortunes around, but time is swiftly running out.
