Week 8 NFL Power Rankings (Teams 32–17)
The NFL season is flying by, and every week the standings get a little more interesting. Some teams are starting to heat up, while others can’t seem to catch a break. This week’s lower half of the rankings includes a mix of rebuilding squads, struggling contenders, and one winless team.
32. New York Jets (0–7)
The Jets’ struggles continued with another tough loss, this time falling 13–6 to the Panthers. Their offense couldn’t move the ball, and the quarterbacks threw multiple interceptions. The defense kept them in the game, but without help from the offense, the Jets are still searching for their first win.
31. New Orleans Saints (1–6)
The Saints fell 26–14 to the Bears in a game where their defense just couldn’t get off the field. Chris Olave had two long touchdowns and looked unstoppable at times, but turnovers from rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler were costly. New Orleans has playmakers, but they can’t seem to put together a full four quarters.
30. Tennessee Titans (1–6)
The Titans were beaten 31–13 by the Patriots, showing how far they still have to go. Rookie quarterback Cameron Ward threw a deep touchdown early, but the offense slowed down fast. The defense gave up big plays through the air, and it’s clear this young team is still learning to compete.
29. Miami Dolphins (1–6)
Miami’s offense couldn’t find its rhythm in a 31–6 loss to Cleveland. Running back De’Von Achane showed flashes of brilliance with several long runs, but turnovers from Tua Tagovailoa killed any momentum. Without Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins’ passing game looks lost, and their season is slipping away.
28. Baltimore Ravens (1–5)
The Ravens were on a bye week, and they needed it. Their offense has been slow and inconsistent, and they desperately need Lamar Jackson back. The break gives them a chance to reset and maybe spark a turnaround before things get out of hand.
27. Las Vegas Raiders (2–5)
The Raiders were completely shut down in a 31–0 loss to the Chiefs. Their new run-heavy offense didn’t work, and quarterback Geno Smith never got comfortable. The defense had no answers for Patrick Mahomes, who threw three touchdowns. Las Vegas needs a big change on offense to stay alive in the AFC West.
26. Arizona Cardinals (2–5)
The Cardinals battled hard but fell 27–23 to the Packers. Tight end Trey McBride scored twice and rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. made highlight catches, but the defense couldn’t hold up late. Arizona’s young players are showing promise, but finishing games is still their biggest weakness.
25. Cleveland Browns (2–5)
The Browns dominated the Dolphins 31–6 behind a breakout performance from rookie running back Quinshon Judkins, who scored three touchdowns. Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel managed the game well, and the defense added a pick-six. It was Cleveland’s most complete performance of the year and a sign that their young core is improving.
24. New York Giants (2–5)
The Giants played their best game of the year... until the end. They lost a heartbreaker 33–32 to Denver after leading most of the way. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart threw for four touchdowns and Cam Skattebo powered the run game, but a missed extra point and a late collapse cost them. Still, there’s real progress in New York.
23. Houston Texans (2–4)
The Texans fell 27–19 to the Seahawks but showed some fight late. C.J. Stroud threw for 229 yards and a touchdown, and rookie receiver Jaylin Noel had a strong game. However, early mistakes and a shaky offensive line buried them in a hole they couldn’t climb out of. Houston has young talent but needs cleaner execution.
22. Cincinnati Bengals (3–4)
Cincinnati came out on top in a wild 33–31 shootout over the Steelers. Joe Flacco threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns, while Ja’Marr Chase went off with 161 yards and a score. Rookie running back Chase Brown added 108 yards on the ground, giving the Bengals balance. After a slow start to the season, they finally look dangerous again.
21. Washington Commanders (3–4)
The Commanders were crushed 44–22 by the Cowboys in a game where everything went wrong. Quarterback Jayden Daniels got hurt, and the defense gave up multiple long touchdowns. Backup Marcus Mariota couldn’t spark the offense, and the team looked overmatched. They need a reset before falling too far behind in the NFC East.
20. Minnesota Vikings (3–4)
Minnesota fell 28–22 to the Eagles in a back-and-forth game. Carson Wentz threw two early interceptions, but Jordan Addison was electric with 128 yards receiving. The Vikings’ defense fought hard but gave up too many deep passes to A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. They’ve been close in most games, now they need to close them.
19. Atlanta Falcons (3–3)
The Falcons dropped a 20–10 decision to the 49ers but stayed competitive the entire way. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw a beautiful touchdown to Bijan Robinson and showed poise under pressure. Still, Atlanta couldn’t finish drives and settled for field goals. They’re improving, but not finishing games is costing them wins.
18. Carolina Panthers (4–3)
The Panthers won their third straight game, beating the Jets 13–6 in a defensive slugfest. Bryce Young played smart, the running game controlled the clock, and cornerback Jaycee Horn grabbed two interceptions. Carolina’s defense has become one of the best in football, and they’re quietly climbing the NFC standings.
17. Dallas Cowboys (3–3–1)
The Cowboys put on a show in a 44–22 win over Washington. Dak Prescott threw three touchdowns, tight end Jake Ferguson scored twice, and running back Javonte Williams powered the ground game with 116 yards. Dallas looked like a complete team on both sides of the ball, the kind of team that can make a real playoff push.
These middle and lower-tier teams are starting to sort themselves out. Some, like the Panthers and Bengals, are showing real signs of life, while others, like the Jets and Raiders, seem stuck in neutral. With half the season still ahead, a few of these teams could turn things around, but time is running out fast.
