Mavericks Explode in Fourth Quarter to Beat Warriors
The Dallas Mavericks stormed back in the fourth quarter to beat the Golden State Warriors 123-115 on Thursday night. Dallas trailed by five heading into the final period but outscored the Warriors by 39 points in the quarter to pull away.
Curry Battles, Warriors Fall Short
Stephen Curry looked like the legend he is. The 37-year-old sharpshooter poured in 38 points for Golden State. He launched shots from everywhere, his release as quick as ever. When Curry catches the ball, defenders have to sprint at him. His feet shuffle, the ball rises, and it feels like magic.
But the Warriors couldn't get enough help around him. De'Anthony Melton added 22 points off the bench and played well. Moses Moody chipped in 12 points. Brandin Podziemski dished out 10 assists, moving the ball like a veteran point guard.
Jonathan Kuminga played just nine minutes before leaving with an ankle and knee injury. He was perfect from the field with 10 points before getting hurt.
The Warriors were without Jimmy Butler, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear in January. His absence left a major hole in their lineup.
Dallas Gets Big Nights from Young Stars
Rookie sensation Cooper Flagg was fantastic for Dallas. The number one overall pick scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. At 6-foot-9, Flagg flies around the court. He can score from anywhere and defends with fire and energy.
Naji Marshall was the star of the night. He scored 30 points on amazing shooting and added nine assists. Marshall attacked the basket and found open teammates all night long.
Max Christie scored 21 points. Brandon Williams added 19. Dwight Powell hauled down 12 rebounds to control the glass.
Dallas played without Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Daniel Gafford, and several other injured players. But their young players stepped up big time.
Warriors Lose Steam
Golden State led after three quarters but couldn't hold on. Dallas caught fire in the fourth and the Warriors couldn't answer back. The loss dropped Golden State to 25-21, while Dallas improved to 19-26.
