76ers Dominate Sacramento Without Their Stars
The Philadelphia 76ers rolled into Sacramento and took care of business, beating the Kings 139-118 on Thursday, March 19. What made this win so impressive was who wasn't even playing. Tyrese Maxey, Paul George, and Kelly Oubre Jr. were all out with injuries, yet Philadelphia still dominated from the opening tip. The Sixers led 45-33 after the first quarter and never let Sacramento back into the game. This was a complete team performance, and it sent a message to the rest of the league.
VJ Edgecombe and Justin Edwards Erupt
Without Maxey running the offense, rookie VJ Edgecombe stepped up in a huge way. He finished with 38 points, 11 assists, and 7 rebounds while shooting 57.1% from the field. His plus-minus was a remarkable +44, meaning the Sixers outscored the Kings by 44 points while he was on the floor. Justin Edwards also had a breakout night, scoring 32 points on 61.1% shooting with a +47 plus-minus. Both young players showed the kind of resilience that makes Philadelphia's future look very promising, even with stars missing.
Grimes, Drummond, and Barlow Fill the Void
Beyond the two young stars, several other Sixers made strong contributions. Quentin Grimes added 27 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field. Andre Drummond controlled the paint, recording 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 24 minutes. Meanwhile, Dominick Barlow chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds with a solid +31 on the night. The Sixers used a balanced attack throughout, which made it nearly impossible for Sacramento to focus its defense on just one player. The depth was on full display.
Kings' Young Roster Can't Match Philly's Energy
Sacramento struggled all night despite a solid effort from rookie Maxime Raynaud, who led the Kings with 30 points on 64.7% shooting. Daeqwon Plowden added 20 points off the bench, showing some promise for the future. However, Sacramento's depleted roster, missing Sabonis, LaVine, and Murray, simply couldn't keep up with Philadelphia's energy. The Kings fell to 18-53, the worst record in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Sixers improved to 38-32 and kept their playoff hopes alive, even without their biggest stars on the court.
