The 2026 NBA Rising Stars Challenge was one of the most exhilarating events of All-Star Weekend. Four teams, composed of the league’s top rookies, second-year players, and G League standouts, competed in a fast-paced tournament. By the end of the night, Team Vince had secured the championship in dramatic style.
Legendary Coaches on the Sidelines
Each team was guided by a prominent figure from the NBA. Carmelo Anthony led Team Melo. As a 10-time All-Star and one of the greatest scorers in league history, Anthony contributed his vast experience and inspiring leadership.
Tracy McGrady coached Team T-Mac. A two-time scoring champion, McGrady was renowned for his exceptional shooting skills and his talent for dominating games.
Vince Carter, celebrated as one of the most iconic dunkers in NBA history, guided Team Vince. His extensive career and highlight-reel plays made him an ideal mentor for the emerging stars.
Austin Rivers led Team Austin, directing a group of gifted G League players.
The First Round Matchups
In the opening game, Team Melo triumphed over Team Austin with a score of 40–34, propelled by impressive performances from players like Reed Sheppard and Stephon Castle.
In the second semifinal, Team Vince emerged victorious against Team T-Mac, finishing 41–36. VJ Edgecombe, Derik Queen, and Matas Buzelis played crucial roles in this win.
A One-Point Championship Finish
The championship game between Team Vince and Team Melo was extremely competitive. Utilizing the target score format, every possession held significant importance. Team Vince clinched a thrilling victory with a score of 25–24.
VJ Edgecombe, the number three overall pick for the Philadelphia 76ers, made crucial plays and earned the MVP award, showcasing that he is one of the league’s most promising young talents.
