Bills Beat Ravens 41-40 in an Incredible 4th Quarter Comeback
Two Championship Contenders Battle in Epic Season Opener
The 2025 NFL season started with excitement as the Buffalo Bills faced off against the Baltimore Ravens. Many thought this game could show us what the AFC Championship game might look like. Both teams had high hopes - the Bills wanted Josh Allen to have his best season, while the Ravens aimed to keep up their strong offense from 2024, when they scored 62 touchdowns.
First Quarter: Bills Strike First
The game began with Buffalo proving they are one of the league's best offenses. After a great kickoff return by Brandon Codrington, quarterback Josh Allen quickly found his groove. The Bills moved down the field step by step, with Allen throwing a 15-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dalton Kincaid. This early touchdown showed how well Allen and Kincaid work together, especially since Kincaid is back after battling injuries in 2024.
The Ravens came back with their own strong drive, featuring the powerful running of Derrick Henry. Some doubted if the 31-year-old could keep up his top performance after handling 386 touches last season, but Henry looked great early on. Baltimore finished their drive with a 52-yard field goal by Tyler Loop, making it 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter: Offensive Explosion
The second quarter was full of action from both teams, especially the Ravens’ running game. Henry broke through for an impressive 30-yard touchdown run, showing why he was so important in 2024. Not to be outdone, Lamar Jackson added a 10-yard rushing touchdown, proving how hard it can be to stop Baltimore's offense.
The Bills responded with field goals as Allen threw for 394 yards during the game, completing 33 of 46 passes. His connection with slot receiver Khalil Shakir was strong, as Shakir finished with 64 receiving yards on 6 catches, continuing to be one of Allen’s favorite targets. At halftime, Baltimore was ahead 20-13.
Third Quarter: Ravens Extend Lead
Baltimore kept up the strong offensive play in the third quarter. Jackson threw a beautiful 23-yard touchdown pass to rising star Zay Flowers, who made a big impact in the game. The Ravens got another touchdown when Jackson connected with veteran DeAndre Hopkins for 29 yards, showing that Hopkins can still make big plays.
Buffalo responded with a touchdown run from James Cook. Cook, who had a breakout season in 2024 with 16 rushing touchdowns, added another score along with 44 rushing yards and 58 receiving yards. The Bills entered the final quarter trailing 34-19.
Fourth Quarter: Allen's Magic Show and An Epic Comeback
The fourth quarter was all about Josh Allen and the Bills’ offense. Allen threw two touchdown passes and ran for a touchdown, proving why Buffalo thinks this could be his best season yet. His ability to escape pressure and make plays with both his arms and legs was impressive.
With the Ravens leading 40-35 late in the game, Allen drove the Bills down the field one last time. He found rookie superstar Keon Coleman for a touchdown, and then connected with Coleman again for the game-winning score with just over four minutes remaining. Allen finished the game with impressive stats: 394 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 30 rushing yards, and 2 rushing touchdowns.
Looking Ahead
This exciting win gives Buffalo a boost early in what looks to be a tough AFC. The Bills showed their strong offense and defense can help them win against top teams. Although Baltimore lost, their offense still looks like one of the best in the league.
Both teams will look to keep building on this performance as they get ready for Week 2 games against division rivals, with playoff chances already beginning to take shape after this thrilling matchup.
