Broncos Defense Shines in 20-12 Victory Over Titans
The Denver Broncos started their 2025 season with big hopes. They wanted to do well after a strong comeback last year with head coach Sean Payton. The Tennessee Titans had rookie quarterback Cam Ward, the first pick in the draft, leading a team that is still rebuilding. What we saw was a tough defensive game showing that the Broncos are aiming for the championship.
First Quarter Sets the Tone (DEN 3, TEN 3)
The game began with both teams getting a feel for each other. Tennessee's Tony Pollard showed his skills early by making a 29-yard catch that helped the Titans score first. Pollard is the main running back for Tennessee, and he proved why they depend on him for their running game.
For Denver, second-year quarterback Bo Nix felt comfortable in the game. He made good passes to veteran tight end Evan Engram and wide receiver Courtland Sutton. The Broncos worked hard and scored a 39-yard field goal by Wil Lutz, tying with Tennessee's 50-yard field goal by Joey Slye.
Second Quarter Momentum Shifts (DEN 10, TEN 6)
The second quarter was key as both defenses began to take over. Denver's great defense forced a fumble from Tony Pollard. Safety Brandon Jones was quick to recover it. This turnover showed why the Broncos' defense is feared.
Cam Ward, in his first NFL game, had some ups and downs. He was sacked twice, including a play by Jeffery Simmons. Later he got sacked again by Nik Bonitto when the Titans were close to scoring.
The most exciting moment came at the end of the quarter when Bo Nix found Courtland Sutton for a 22-yard touchdown pass. This drive was helped by a penalty on the defense. It showed how well the two have worked together since last season.
Third Quarter Defensive Battle (DEN 13, TEN 9)
The third quarter was all about defense. Tennessee's Xavier Woods intercepted a pass from Bo Nix early on, putting the Titans in a good spot. But they only managed to score a field goal as Denver's defense held tough.
Both teams found it hard to move the ball. Ward completed only 12 of 28 passes for 112 yards while facing constant pressure from the Broncos. Denver sacked Ward six times during the game, with Jonathon Cooper and Zach Allen leading the way.
Fourth Quarter Seals Victory (Final: DEN 20, TEN 12)
Denver took control in the fourth quarter with a strong running game. Rookie running back RJ Harvey made a thrilling 50-yard run, showing the speed that made him a second-round pick. This set up J.K. Dobbins' 19-yard touchdown run, giving the Broncos a nice 20-9 lead.
Tennessee scored one more field goal, but Ward struggled. He was sacked again and fumbled the ball on the last drive, allowing Denver's Ja'Quan McMillian to recover and secure the win.
Looking Ahead
This win proves that Denver is serious about winning the championship. Their defense played great while Bo Nix did managed the game well enough to keep his team ahead. With a powerful running game and strong defense, the Broncos look like they can make the playoffs.
For Tennessee, it was expected that there would be challenges with a rookie quarterback. Ward showed some good moments but will need time to develop behind an offensive line that allowed too much pressure. Tony Pollard's 89 total yards (60 rushing, 29 receiving) were a bright spot for the Titans’ offense.
Both teams will aim to build on this first game as they get ready for their next challenges in what should be an exciting 2025 NFL season.
